Event Regulations

GENERAL

It is a racing event that will take place in Greece and in the city of Serres, on 5-7 April 2024, within the most modern racing circuit of the Balkans.

It will include 6 races
α. 48-hour OVERALL RACE
β. 24-hour OVERALL RACE
c. 12-hour OVERALL RACE
δ. Long distance 6 hours 
ε. RUN & FUNbr>
Athletes are obliged to fully respect the rules described below. They are also obliged to obey the instructions of the race judges. Failure to comply with the rules or instructions will always incur the penalty of disqualification. When the race judges become aware of any infringement of the rules, they shall record the infringement and inform the offenders. Any other person authorised by the organisation may also record any infringement that comes to their attention and submit it to the Race Committee for consideration.

TIME OF THE EVENT

The Circuit Greece-Serres Festival Ultra Run will take place on 5-7 April 2023.

The starts of the 5 races are as follows:
a.Circuit 48 hours 5 April 10:00 a.m.
β.Circuit 24 ωρών 6 Απριλίου 9:00 π.μ
c.12-hour circuit April 6, 8:00 a.m.
d.Circuit 6 hours 6 April 12:00 a.m.
e.Circuit Run & Fun April 7 11:00 a.m.

ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE 

All athletes who have reached the age of 18 for all races are eligible to participate. For the Run & Fun race all ages can take part, children can take part either with a parent's declaration or to compete with

VERY IMPORTANT: athletes participating in the SERRES CIRCUIT RUN will compete at their own SOLELY RESPONSIBLE RISK.

RACE TRACK

The race routes are all within the Serres motorway, Each turn is 2500m certified by an official A World Athletics & AIMS meter and its characteristics are flat, asphalt and circular.

REGISTRATION / PAYMENTS

The start of the documents has been set for 1 NOVEMBER and will be done only ONLINE through the website of the organization, serrescircuitrun.gr.

RULES

ATHLETE NUMBER: Each athlete carries his/her race number (bib) on his/her body, which he/she is obliged to have on a prominent place on the front side of the athlete. The number must remain on the bib for the duration of the race without being folded, thus concealing any item displayed on the number (sponsors, logos, etc.). Substantial tampering with the number, which may cause confusion to the station recorders, will be penalised by disqualification.

EXTERNAL ASSISTANCE: No external material assistance (food, clothing) is allowed to the athletes. There will be a water supply station designated by the race organizing committee where participants will be able to fill up their energy batteries.

Any assistance at a point other than the one designated by the organizing committee will result in the automatic cancellation of the athlete.

For the athletes who will compete in the race of 48 hours, 24 hours & 12 hours apart from the water station - catering - they will be able to receive assistance from their personal station which they can set up on a bench provided by the organizing committee of the race if they wish.

Also, they will be able to have within the motorway at the station and a session certified by them for support - assistance during the race.
The athletes of the 48 hours have been provided with two meals on Friday & Saturday during the race which will be available from 20:00 p.m. to 23:00 p.m.
The athletes of the 24 hours have been provided with a meal during the race which will be available from 20:00 p.m. to 23:00 p.m.

At night, the track lighting will not meet the requirements of the athletes in certain areas. For this reason, 48 hour & 24 hour athletes will need to have a head torch in their equipment as well as their support crew.

WASTE

It is strictly forbidden to discard any kind of objects along the course, such as plastic bottles or any other solid or liquid food packaging material consumed by the athletes during the race. There will be a special plastic waste bag at the feed station. All athletes are obliged to throw waste into the bag. Discarding packaging materials or other non-organic waste at any point on the course beyond the designated area will result in a disqualification penalty.

CHECK POINTS

The checkpoint is the starting line of the races, every time the athlete passes it, the distance of 2500m will be added to the total distance covered.

RESULTS - TIMING

The races will be timed with electronic timing on a chip worn by the athletes.

They will receive the chip along with their participation number from the race secretariat.
The official results of the games will be made public a few days after the games, in order to cross-check the data and do the necessary verification.

BIB NUMBER COLLECTION 

The athletes of all the races of CIRCUIT GREECE-SERRES FESTIVAL RUN will be able to collect their participation packages:

a.THURSDAY 4 APRIL (48h-24h-12h-6h-Run n Fun) at Kroniou Square in front of the Serres Chamber of Commerce from 9:00 am to 21:00 pm.
b.FRIDAY 5 APRIL (24h-12h-6h-Run n Fun) at the Serres Motorway from 17:00 p.m. to 21:00 p.m.
c.SATURDAY 6 APRIL (Run n Fun) at the Serres Motorway from 17:00 p.m. to 21:00 p.m.
d.SUNDAY 7 APRIL (Run n Fun) at the Serres Motorway from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

DELIVERY OF PERSONAL GOODS

The organizing committee of the race has designated a guarded area where athletes can leave their personal belongings on the eve of the race and pick them up after the finish.

Along with the delivery of numbers, they will be given a plastic bag in which they will put their things, on this bag they will stick the sticker number corresponding to their bib number to avoid mistakes when they receive them.

AWARDS AND MEDALS

In the 48-hour race, the first 3 winners will be given a cup - prize and those who cover at least 220km will be given a commemorative medal. There will also be an award for the fastest male and female athlete in the 100km intermediate split in the Circuit 48 hours Ultra Run (if he/she has covered at least 210km for men and 200km for women). There will be no age categories in the 48 hours.

In the 24-hour race, the first 3 winners will be awarded a trophy and those who cover at least 120km will be awarded a commemorative medal. There will also be an award for the fastest male and female athlete in the 100km intermediate split in the Circuit 24 hours Ultra Run (if they have covered at least 120km for men and 110km for women). There will be no age categories in the 24 hours.

In the 12-hour race, the first 3 winners will be awarded a trophy and those who run at least 60km will be awarded a commemorative medal. There will be no age categories in the 12 hours.

In the 6-hour race, the first 3 winners will be awarded a trophy and those who run at least 30km will be awarded a commemorative medal. There will be no age categories in the 6 hour race.

In the Run & Fun race the first 3 winners will be awarded a cup - prize and all participants will be given a commemorative medal.

RACE BRIEFING - WELCOME

For the athletes of all the races, technical information and answers to any questions, will take place 30 minutes at the Serres Motorway before the start of each race.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

The Organization reserves the copyright of the photography and filming of the race, which is carried out by authorized partners. Any athlete whose application for participation is accepted automatically accepts this condition, knowing that his/her face may appear in photographs or videos, without being asked for permission and without being able to claim any compensation from any publication of race material.

SAFETY

The organizers undertake to supervise the race route with specialized staff in safety, rescue and medical assistance to athletes in need of photos or videos, without asking for permission and without being able to claim any compensation from any publication of race material.

DISCLAIMER

The Commission is not responsible for the death, injury or any damage to the health of competitors who, by submitting the application form, declare that they are aware of the risks involved and certify that their state of health is good and allows them to compete, having not recently been examined by a doctor for this matter. Athletes themselves are obliged to undergo regular medical check-ups to monitor their state of health. The Commission declines all responsibility for the physical integrity of the athletes.

COMPLAINTS

Objections for any reason can only be made by the athlete himself, no later than 30 minutes from the finish. The decision of the objections committee, composed of the technical director of the race and the members of the technical committee, is issued by the time of the awards ceremony and is final.

CONTINUATION OF THE RACE

If there is an emergency (extremely dangerous weather conditions), the Organisers reserve the right to postpone the start for a short period of time in order not to endanger the physical integrity of the athletes.

LEGAL DECLARATION

Before the race and upon receipt of the bib number, the athletes must sign a declaration stating that they assume responsibility for any accident, injury, death or any damage to their health and that the organizers are not responsible for any of the above.

The race committee disclaims all responsibility for the health of the athletes.

The world record holder in the men's race is Yannis Kouros from Greece with a total distance of 473495m, a record that was set in France in 1996.

In the women's race Camille Herron from the USA with a total distance of 435.336m, a record that was set in Australia in 2023.

1/2 Marathon

The men's world record holder is Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda with a time of 57'31" a record set in Portugal in 2021.

The men's national record is held by Spyros Andriopoulos with a time of 1:03:04, a record that was set in Italy in 1988.

In the women's race the world record is held by Yalemzerf Yehualow with a time of 1:03:43, a record that was set in 2021 in Ireland.

The national record for women is held by Ourania Reboulis with a time of 1:11:52, which was set in 2016 in the Netherlands.

The world record holder in the men's race is Donald Richie from Great Britain with a total distance of 97.200m, a record that was set in 1978 in Great Britain.

In the women's race the world record is held by Nele Alder Baerens from Germany with a total distance of 85492m, a record that was set in 2017 in Germany.

The women's world record is held by Camille Herron of the USA with a total distance of 149.130m, a record that was set in 2019 in the USA.
